New to D&D? This is the place for you!
D&D is a fantasy tabletop role-playing game. The game you play is entirely determined by you and your DM. The DM builds the world and creates opportunities and encounters for you, the player, and you explore the world and the storylines.
As the player, you are responsible for creating a character and a backstory. Your character can be whatever you want them to be! They can be similar to you, they can be different from you, they can be good, they can be evil, whatever! The only requirement is that they have a reason to be in an adventuring party. If they're a hermetic misanthrope, they're unlikely to wind up in a group.
An adventuring party is a group of player characters that work together towards some common goal. Whether that's the pursuit of justice, glory, gold, or something else entirely is up to you and your party.
For the technotwt d&d game, you will be assigned to a party (although we'll keep time zones in mind!) Your DM will help you create a character and choose a class (almost a profession) and race (basically a species).
Your DM will also fill you in on the basics of the world you'll be playing in, so that you can create your backstory! If you'd like, you can work with other members of your party on your backstory, or keep your backstory a secret from other players so that it can be discovered as the game continues.
